It’s time to tidy up!

Let’s tidy up this blog!

As of today, I’ve backed up all blog posts, all photos, all comments, all headers, all videos, everything, onto three different remote harddrives. Whenever I publish a new post, I always back it up onto my desktop computer’s harddrive, but every once in a while, I back up everything onto the remote harddrives (yes, a full backup of all data onto each of the remote drives). I want to keep this blog happy and healthy. If the live site crashes, I want a backup. And a tidy one, at that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Seagate 1000 GB … Seagate 2 TB … Touro 500 GB

But you folks don’t have to lift a finger. You don’t have to do anything except read along, and comment every now and then if you wish. And yet, if you’d like, there are things you can do to help the blog.

You can sign up to receive (“subscribe” to) blog post notifications in the upper right hand corner of this webpage. Type in your email address, then click the “Subscribe” button. You’ll get an email with further instructions. After you’ve completed the sign-up process, you’ll get a brief, text-only email notice whenever I publish a new post. If you wish to unsubscribe, there’s a link to that too, no problem. There are currently 106 people signed up for this service on this blog.

As well, let your friends and co-workers and relatives and neighbors and exercise/hobby buddies know about this blog. Tell other people you meet in campgrounds about this blog. People who have never gone camping enjoy this blog. People who are thinking of buying a rig and going RVing enjoy this blog. People who are downsizing from a large motorhome to a travel trailer like this blog. Maybe even more importantly, people who used to go camping/RVing, love this blog. Here’s the link … http://www.travelswithtowhee.com.

Share that link, email it, post it, facebook it, tweet it, whatever social media you use, please share the link to this blog. I don’t buy subscribers … many blog posters do, but I don’t. When I started the blog back in August, 2016, by the end of the first month there were nine people reading the blog daily, for the whole month. Today there are an average of 218 people reading the blog every day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know if you want a larger image of any of the photos on the blog … I’ll email any of them to you. Two people have done that this past year and I emailed them a larger version of the photo that each of them wanted. I also emailed the very largest version I have of one of my photos to a print shop, as one reader of this blog wanted it printed and framed for a wall hanging. Could I have sold the photo/image to that person? I suppose, but I was just really pleased. ๐Ÿ™‚

Click on photos to enlarge them. For videos, click on the little square/box image in the lower right hand corner to enlarge the video … or click on the link to YouTube also at the bottom right of the video, to open the video in YouTube if you’d rather.

Comment. Please comment. Your comments make my day. I love comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

The list of countries where people live who read this blog started out at two countries … Canada and USA. Today, it’s up to 96 countries around the world. Of course, some of those folks will likely have simply looked in at one or two blog posts and then they haven’t continued to read, but at least we have had those visitors here, from all around this wonderful planet. I’ve received lots of spam, too, but I don’t count those countries in this list. The latest countries to join the list are …

Bahrain (Wikipedia article here)

Honduras (you may need to click on “English” in the upper right hand corner to translate the page) (Wikipedia article here) The President of Honduras, the first woman President of Honduras, is Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento.

Iceland and here (Wikipedia article here) The Prime Minister of Iceland since 2017 is Katrรญn Jakobsdรณttir. She is Iceland’s second woman Prime Minister.

Nicaragua (you may need to click on “English” in the upper right hand corner to translate the page) (Wikipedia article here)

Taiwan or here. The island of Taiwan is actually the “Republic of China”. Mainland China is NOT the Republic of China. (Wikipedia articles here and here). I was in Taiwan, three or four times, when I was 5-11 years old and we lived in the Philippines. I loved Taiwan.

The politics between Taiwan and mainland China are incredibly complicated. Taiwan truly is the “Republic of China”. What we here in the USA think of as “China” is actually the “People’s Republic of China”. The 2016 President of the Republic of China (the island of Taiwan) is Tsai Ing-wen. She is the first woman President of Taiwan. She studied in London (among other places), and received an LLM (a masters in law) from Cornell University, and was a law school professor. She’s darned smart, and from what I read she’s a caring, humanitarian person, and an incredibly effective leader/administrator of Taiwan, a major world power even though it’s “only” an island.

These countries and these women, and so many others, have so much to offer the world and are making a difference. Here at home, I sit at my desk and worry about the safety of my little blog and hope for comments to the blog. Here’s to all of the women and men who are creating a world of peace. A world of peace.

Ok, now that THIS blog post has been published, I’ll go right now and back it up onto those remote harddrives. Tidiness counts! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Jan says:

    Dear Little Towhee,
please give your blog lady a great big hug. She makes us all feel good and that’s just as important as world peace.

  2. Emily says:

Amen Jan. World peace starts at home, or on the blog. ๐Ÿ™‚ Here’s to Ann’s ALWAYS attitude about caring for people and birds and animals everywhere.

  3. Dawn says:

You are so organized. Tell me why you back up the blog on 3 devices?

    • Ann says:

Why three? Oh, because I’m … well, there are a number of words for it … ha! Let’s just say I’m very comfortable with computer stuff, enjoy it a lot actually, and do NOT want to lose this blog. I had a boat website for the 40-foot classic wood boat I owned for 18 years … it was hosted by BlueHost, a very large company … but my website with them crashed and, even tho I paid them for backups, they had no backups. So I started to send them backup pages off my computer’s harddrive only to find that the backup files on my computer’s harddrive were corrupt. So I sent them backup files from one of the remote harddrives … that finally worked. It’s simply a matter of buying those remote harddrives, then clicking on “backup” (or whatever) before I go to bed … then in the morning, everything is backed up onto all three drives (everything, not just the blog, everything on my computer). And then I sleep well. That’s my story anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Nevada says:

Hot diggity, I’m spreading the word! I’ve been standing at the bus stop downtown handing out cards with your blog website on them. The police have stopped by a few times but so far so good. HA! ok, I’m just kidding, I haven’t been doing that. But I have sent emails to friends about this blog, hope they join us. Thanks for the serious parts of this blog and the fun parts. It’s super.

    • Ann says:

LOL! Go for it Nevada! It would be A-OK with me if you DID stand at the bus stop and hand out my blog website address. Even to the police officers. ๐Ÿ™‚
      That was fun, thanks.

  5. Reader Ruth says:

Ann, you must have some computer/IT background. No one else I know is so dedicated to backups. And a 2TB drive, cool. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Ann says:

Actually, I have the last five full backups of everything on my computer on that 2TB drive and it’s not even half full. And yes, I have a bunch of years of school and employment in computers/IT. I think you do too, yes? It’s an interesting way to look at the world, through the lens of computers and systems.

  6. Dapper David says:

Have to admit I erally had no idea where Japan and Korea and the Philippines were in relation to each other, much less Taiwan. I figured they were all about the same latitude. Oh my word not!! Japan is much further north, and the Philippines is much further south than they had been in my mind. Thanks for the map!

    • Ann says:

You’re welcome, David. Much of Japan is very cold in winter, very cold. And yet, there are mountains in northern Luzon (the largest island in the Philippines) where there is snow/ice on those mountains year-round, even tho that island is so far south. Of course, the rest of the Philippines is much warmer than Japan. Maps are great, aren’t they?

  7. Jamie says:

Oh backups, yes indeed! I’m an MCSE, maybe Ruth is too, maybe Ann is too. You can’t have too many backups. Software systems fail, hardware fails, sometimes multiple times all at the same time. It’s nice to run across someone else who is so fastidious about backups.
And I love the maps and didn’t have a clue about the locations of those countries either. That was really cool to learn. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Ann says:

Ha! Another computer geek. That’s cool, Jamie. Yes, I think Ruth is an MCSE, and yes I am too. (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) That means that we have taken the classes and passed the tests to earn that title from Microsoft as systems engineers … not just desktop computer technicians or website technicians or database technicians (who are extraordinary in what they do) … but in those areas and in several other areas of the Microsoft world too. Do you remember those tests that Microsoft gave us? I love tests, but holy cow, those were THE most difficult tests I’ve ever had in my life.
Maps are great, aren’t they. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Rob Arnold says:

I bet that little bird, Little Towhee, is sitting right on the desk beside Ann’s computer and is directing blog maintenance. Thanks Little Towhee. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Greg Schellen says:

I’ve never been outside the US. I thought Japan and the Philippines were right next door to each other. I’ll be heading to a book store to buy a really big world atlas! I’m going to buy copies of the atlas for each of the grandkids too!

    • Ann says:

Good idea, Greg, an atlas. After I read your comment, I pulled mine off the bookshelf and put it on the coffee table. I love to wander through the world with an atlas. And what a great gift … one for each grandchild … that’s super. They can learn and they can dream. That’s excellent.

  10. Melly says:

Yippee & yeehaw!!! Love your blog Ann & the two horses at the top look like they’re waiting for a good trail ride! Be right there!!! Keep blogging!!! Love you!!!

    • Ann says:

Yep, they were ready for a gallop for sure! ๐Ÿ™‚ BIG horses tho, really big, so probably a fairly slow gallop. But how cool that would be.
Love you too, buckets and barrels. ๐Ÿ™‚
