The Pink Panther!

Ok, no, I did NOT drive around a hair-pin corner in the road to find a pink panther waiting with bated breath to attack me. 🙂 Let me tell you what I DID find.

You may remember the 1963 movie “The Pink Panther” … and Henry Mancini’s music theme from that movie, right? THAT’s the pink panther that I’m talking about.

I was messing around on the internet the other evening, here at home, after my camping trip to Conconully, when I came across this video that I like a lot!

The video is of five double-basses (FIVE of them) … playing that Pink Panther theme from that movie. That’s it, no other instruments, just five big bad beautiful string basses. Sure, sure, you might think that’s weird and it won’t sound right at all. But just you wait. It’s really cool! 🙂

Turn your sound on first, and your sound needs to be up a bit higher than usual, before you start the video. Turn that sound up! And get ready to tap your feet or your head or your hands or just your thumb, whatever, but come on along.

How cool was that! 🙂 And yes, it was recorded right there in the woods, the sound was not recorded in a studio and then dubbed over the video. This was recorded live right along with the bird calls you can hear at the end. I swear the wood in those trees resonated with the wood in those basses … not just five instruments, but hundreds were playing along with them.

The lead on this piece is Božo Paradžik, born in Croatia, who now teaches double-bass and creates wonderful videos like this one. He sometimes plays cello, and other instruments, and plays double-bass professionally in several world-renowned orchestras.

Ok, now I’m going to go watch that original 1963 movie. 🙂
