Ok, no, I did NOT drive around a hair-pin corner in the road to find a pink panther waiting with bated breath to attack me. π Let me tell you what I DID find.
You may remember the 1963 movie “The Pink Panther” … and Henry Mancini’s music theme from that movie, right? THAT’s the pink panther that I’m talking about.
I was messing around on the internet the other evening, here at home, after my camping trip to Conconully, when I came across this video that I like a lot!
The video is of five double-basses (FIVE of them) … playing that Pink Panther theme from that movie. That’s it, no other instruments, just five big bad beautiful string basses. Sure, sure, you might think that’s weird and it won’t sound right at all. But just you wait. It’s really cool! π
Turn your sound on first, and your sound needs to be up a bit higher than usual, before you start the video. Turn that sound up! And get ready to tap your feet or your head or your hands or just your thumb, whatever, but come on along.
How cool was that! π And yes, it was recorded right there in the woods, the sound was not recorded in a studio and then dubbed over the video. This was recorded live right along with the bird calls you can hear at the end. I swear the wood in those trees resonated with the wood in those basses … not just five instruments, but hundreds were playing along with them.
The lead on this piece is BoΕΎo ParadΕΎik, born in Croatia, who now teaches double-bass and creates wonderful videos like this one. He sometimes plays cello, and other instruments, and plays double-bass professionally in several world-renowned orchestras.
Ok, now I’m going to go watch that original 1963 movie. π

This was cool!! π
Thanks Steve. π
What fun! Hubby and I will be watching the movie this evening. Thank you! π
Thanks Wanda. Hope you two enjoyed that movie. π
Cool beans! Haven’t seen this movie in years, more years than I care to disclose. π Love that music, will watch the movie.
Thanks Rob. Yes, “more years than I care to disclose” … me too. π
Never heard of the movie, but the reviews look like it’s a weird wonderful wacky fun goofy movie. Ok, I’ll go watch it. But mostly I love that bass music!
The music is wonderful fun isn’t it? Sometimes the music from movies are better than the movies. But this movie is goofy fun too. π
Watched that movie several times but not for years and years, it’s kind of stupid humor but it works really well. I remember laughing my head off. Gonna invite my old neighbor over to watch it too. Humor is better with company.
I agree, Paul, humor is better with company. I laugh way more when I have one or more people laughing with me too. Hope you and your neighbor had a good time and lots of laughs.
Long time ago, decades ago, I lived in Portland, OR, and there was a woman who played the bass in a small women’s band. She so enjoyed playing that bass. It was fun watching those five people play in the video. I was particularly impressed by the woman who tapped out the rhythm … the tapping changed every fourth measure … three measures the same, then the fourth measure was different, then back to the first again, then repeat. I tried to do that along with the video … yikes, I barely made it through one change. She must have practiced for a long time! She probably taps out that rhythm in her sleep. Great memories you brought up. Thank you.
Tina, I lived in Portland, OR, years ago too and knew a small women’s band that occasionally had a bass player join them (her name was Ruth). Maybe you and I knew the same group, wouldn’t that be cool?! The group that I knew had six other women in it … Pat & Lou, Eileen & Patty, Frodo & (oops can’t remember). Eileen was a professional accordion player and superb!
And yes, that woman in the video in this blog post who tapped out that rhythm was amazing. I tried tapping it too, couldn’t do it. Love your comment that she probably taps out that rhythm in her sleep. π
Indeed, wonderful memories of Portland, OR, and the women’s community there. Thanks for being here. π
WHOOP! YES! That’s the group! I bet you and I were at the same group events … sometimes in a building with a stage but more often in a park or other casual setting. I just now logged in because you often reply to comments on Mondays and I hoped you might respond to my comment … excellent!! π Wow this was cool. What a great connection. I’d ask you more but this is a public venue. I think Eileen is gone? Do you know? Where’s Ruth?
Whoop YES! π How cool is that? I love this Tina. When anyone posts a comment, the email address they use shows up for me. I’m going to email you. Yes, Eileen passed a couple of years ago. Ruth became a renowned pediatrician and is now in California. Look for an email from me. π The messages from every reader here are so wonderful, every comment here means so much to me.
I’m too young to remember this, but I’ve heard the tune! And yes it got me tapping my feet. π Some friends of mine and I have a movie night most every week. I’ll suggest The Pink Panther. Sounds like fun.
Hope you get to watch the movie, Emily. It’s an “oldie” but a “goodie”, in my mind. Thanks for the comment. π
Oh, you’ve done it again, Ann. I listened to the video on Friday, and still this morning, Sunday morning, I’m humming that tune in my head. Ba-do-ba-do, ba-do, ba-do-ba-d0-ba-do, ba-do ba-dooooooooo, da-da-da-da-dun. etc. It’s a heck of a lot nicer than the usual nonsense I have in my head. π
LOL! Me too, Lisa … it’s still bumping around in my brain days later. Thank you for letting me know that I’m not the only one! π
What fun! Thank you. π
You are welcome! π
The problem with watching all the wonderful music videos that you post is that they always lead to another and another interesting video, and I end up spending an afternoon watching them or staying up way past my bedtime doing the same. Sometimes I follow the trail that you started, (i.e., the Alp horn), and other times getting sidetracked by whatever comes up next. And I find all kinds of interesting and wonderful things!
So, Ann, please keep on sharing!
Me too, Fritzi, I get so sidetracked and then I’m led down another rabbit hole, and yet I find some really interesting things … music, and history, and humor, and books. Darned good thing we’re retired and have the time eh? π Rest assured, I will continue sharing. Thank you.
