I’m home now, in between camping trips. One thing I do when I’m home is search online using my big home computer for videos of travels in other parts of the world … places I likely will never see myself.
This evening, I happened upon a reference to some videos made by Paul Murton. I had seen some of his videos years ago and had forgotten all about him. But I remember liking his videos a lot. So, with that little memory from the past, I searched out this more recent series that had been mentioned, and I found them! I’ve just finished watching the first video in the series of 6 videos … it’s wonderful!
You might think that a half hour of looking at remote (VERY remote!) Scottish islands would be boring … some scenery, a bit of bird wildlife, some old historic photos … what more is there to see or talk about? Well, you just watch this. 🙂 Paul Murton includes so many wonderful things in his travel videos, so many personal things, so much detailed information that is truly fascinating, with seriousness and a wonderful sense of humour. He even includes some highlights of a quick game of golf he played on the second remote island … well, it’s sort of golf, you’ll see.
I might have to order a sweater or a throw or a warm fisherwoman’s kep(cap) from the Fair Isle knitters … yes? There are six videos in this series by Paul Murton … all are on YouTube at “Grand Tours of the Scottish Islands Series” … and can be found HERE.
Here’s a link to a short Wikipedia article about Paul Murton … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Murton.
Even if I wasn’t part Scottish, seems to me the video above is fascinating. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the series. And I’ll keep looking for more videos about other places in the world and other people (and birds). Maybe I’ll find similar videos about Armenia, or some of the Caribbean islands, or Cambodia. Who knows? Aren’t people and places all over the world absolutely fascinating and wonderful?
Just one more SHORT video to share. I don’t ordinarily include political things in my blog, but I’m going to here. Seems to me that we need to speak up, gather and support people who care about each other. Especially with the ICE killings and brutality by ICE of USA citizens (and others) in Minnesota these days, we have to step up and stop the stupid cruelty and violence of the USA government. So I’m sharing this. Rest assured, the video below does not show any ICE brutality, but it does have a message that I think y’all will understand.
This video is about Greenland … which is owned by Denmark. Besides the current political message that is obvious, I love the production of the video. They surely used “AI” to create some of the video. There are no penguins in Greenland for instance, but maybe it’s a nod to making a pact all over the earth, from the north pole to the south pole, where there ARE penguins. And that’s great with me. What it took to produce this! Walrus people and Polar Bear people and Orcas! Besides Scottish, I also have Danish and northern Norwegian ancestors … whom today we call the Vikings … that’s me. The USA does not own Greenland. Keep your hands off! Turn your sound UP!
And, don’t forget to go watch the other five videos of that Scottish islands series … they are so wonderful.
I sometimes save your blog posts to read on Saturday. This one I read right away! My ancestors are Scottish as well. 🙂 What a great video. I’ll be watching all of the Paul Murton videos. Thank you!
Thank you for the political bit too, it is so important that every one of us do something, emails, letters, phone calls, whatever, do something!
Thanks, Ruth … for everything you wrote and are doing … and are enjoying. 🙂
Scottish ancestry here too. Those islands are beautiful. And the request for peace you voice is shared by all of us. I will follow Paul Murton, thank you.
Aren’t Paul Murton’s videos spectacular? I hope you find the other videos about Scotland that he produced in addition to those island videos. Slàinte, Bill. 🙂
I’m not Scottish, but I love that video and will watch the others. And I too have emailed, and called, and written letters for peace. Amazing video of Scottish islands, thank you for that peace of mind.
If we can share peace, that’s really important. Thanks Olivia.
Fabulous! Just watched his second one too, just super.
Thanks Greg. 🙂
It’s-15 here this morning. Watching videos sounds like a good way to spend the morning.
Ah, a cold day in paradise, sometimes known as Michigan. Thanks Dawn. 🙂
I have relatives who live near Goderich, Canada, where it is 9 degrees F this morning, which is 23 degrees below freezing, and that’s really near the USA border not way up north. So yes grab a hot cup of whatever and watch those Scottish videos and support the people who trying to get the USA government to be reasonable. Go Ann!
Yikes that’s cold! Thanks Walt … let’s keep doing the right thing. 🙂
I live near Omaha, Nebraska. It’s 2 degrees outside my kitchen window right now, that’s 30 degrees below freezing. Holy crap, haven’t seen it this cold here ever. I think that penguin in that last video might be wearing a hat with a red maple leaf on it that says “Canada” in white letters across it. I have seen that emblem on things. But I don’t think there are penguins in Canada either, so whoever made that video needs a little education. How about a really big MOOSE instead? 🙂
Yikes!!! that’s even colder, Nebraska, than the two folks above who reported really cold weather who are north of you. Keep warm, ok?
Ok, the penguin … the North Atlantic Defense Alliance (I think that’s part of NATO?) uses an image of a polar bear shaking hands with a penguin … almost exactly the same image (without the clothing) as in the video. The difference is that the polar bear and the penguin, in the video, have clothes on. But I don’t know what the image is that’s on the hat that the penguin is wearing. I like the idea of large, very large, MOOSE.
Fascinating videos, both of them. Will watch the other Scottish ones for sure. I like Nebraska’s idea of a very large MOOSE. I also absolutely love the new header photo of the purple Rhodies. Gorgeous!!
Thanks for the nice words about that header image, Judy. I love that Rhodie, it’s really gorgeous. 🙂 Here’s to peace.
Magnificent Scottish islands, I’ll be watching the series. And, very important info and video about Greenland. I have communicated about Greenland and about ICE with my senators and reps and some organizations who are working on this. Peace.
Thank you Ben. The more of us who communicate about our wishes for peace, the better our chances are at getting it.
Ann, we can’t thank you enough. You spoke so graciously about the horrible actions of the USA government, and yet we can sense that you are angry, and maybe scared, like we all are. My husband and I were both raised in Minnesota, we have friends and relatives there, we live fulltime in our motorhome down south now, but we are terrified for those we love “back home” and terrified that ICE will show up where we are down south and kill us! Or cause so much damage to our bodies! We belong to local organizations and nationwide organizations to stop ICE and to be apprised of the movements of ICE. Neither my husband nor I can think of words bad enough to describe those people. THEY are the murderers and rapists … not the rest of us. I hope everyone pays attention to information like you shared, and to the rest of it too. Even tho that Greenland video you shared was kind of goofy in parts, we hope it gets people out of their chairs and gets them to do something. We have to stop this!
Thank you. You’re the best. We hope you stay SAFE and warm and well.
Wanda & Don
Wanda & Don …
Angry and scared, you got it, just like you are and so many of us are … inside our own country! ICE could show up anywhere at any time and act the same way that they have been in Minnesota, and in other states in the USA where they have killed and maimed so many people, including the unborn child of a pregnant woman, a HUGELY pregnant woman, when ICE agents sat on her “stomach” killing the baby, when that woman was doing nothing but peaceful demonstration by simply standing and watching. Indeed, ICE are the murderers and violent criminals. There’s a post online that says “Hitler had the Gestapo, Trump has ICE.” I avoided news reports at first, but now I’ve looked back and find hundreds of incidents where ICE has killed or disabled or blinded or so badly physically damaged people who weren’t doing anything except existing … or where ICE destroyed homes and property, and STOLE property and art work and money out of homes … same shit. Wanda, I hope your family and friends up north are ok. Thanks for your words … they are important.
Yes to everyone, stay SAFE, and warm.
We’ve been to the Scottish islands. Took a boat cruise and stopped at Iona, Islay, the Outer Hebrides, St. Kilda, Orkney and Shetland. Best holiday we ever had!
Oh FG, this warms my heart! It was so heart-warming when I learned that you and Mrs. FG had traveled west across Canada, then come south to visit Port Townsend, then took the ferry to Whidbey. That was so wonderful.
But now here’s your report of your boat cruise to Scottish islands, many of which are included in Paul Murton’s video productions. And that it was the best holiday you’d ever had … that just warms the cockles of my heart. 🙂
Ok, I’m signing off on my blog software for this evening … I’m going to explore boat cruises to those Scottish islands. I thought maybe I’d been done with international trips for my life, but I think I might still have one left in me. 🙂 Thank you.
