David Attenborough is one of my favorite people on this planet. I’ve never met him and don’t know anyone who has met him. So I don’t really know who he is, personally. But I’ve watched so many of the stunningly amazing videos he has produced, or during which he was the narrator.
These next two paragraphs here are loosely taken from a Wikipedia article about the man.
Sir David Frederick Attenborough is an English broadcaster, natural historian, and writer. His documentary presenting career began in 1954 (he was 28 years old) when he was host of Zoo Quest. His career includes nine documentary series … not just nine shows, but nine SERIES! He has won dozens of honorary degrees and Emmy awards. He is the only person to have won awards for films/shows in black-and-white, color, high-def, 3D, and 4K resolution. Besides these extraordinary successes and accolades, the shows that he narrates and that he designs are simply wonderful.
While his earlier work focused primarily on the natural world, his later work has been more vocal in support of environmental causes. He has advocated for restoring planetary biodiversity, limiting population growth, switching to renewable energy, mitigating climate change, reducing red meat consumption (particularly beef), and setting aside more areas for natural preservation.

Here is one short video on YouTube by Sir David. It’s about the Lyre Bird of south Australia. Turn your sound on!
There are lots of David’s videos, and parts of videos, on YouTube. Probably most of them are on the “BBC Earth” channel on YouTube.
Ok, here’s just one more, from a few decades ago.
David Attenborough turned 100 years old on May 8, 2026. Here below is a wonderful tribute to him from King Charles III of England. It starts with King Charles writing a birthday note to Sir David. The words he writes (and speaks) are heartfelt and, I hope, speak to all of us. I loved them. But even better, the video goes on to show the delivery of the birthday note to Sir David. This really touched my heart given how much I love this planet and all who live here, and given how much David Attenborough does as well.
Let’s take care of all of our neighbors, all around this planet … the planet that belongs to all life here, not just to humans.
I own the series, The Living Planet, and have watched the entire series several times. I believe it’s time to watch it again!
My very deep heartfelt thanks to you, David. I hope your birthday was fantastically wonderful. You give me hope.
Spectacular. And brought a tear to my eye. Yes, all animals, all beings, own this earth. Even the King of England knows that!
Well said, Nebraska.
I’ve watched David Attenborough’s shows for years, love them. I didn’t realize he was that old. He sure doesn’t look it.
He doesn’t look that old does he? I hope he’s still producing videos for many more years. And yet, if not, I hope he rests well knowing he has made SUCH a difference.
I have two series of his on DVD and I haven’t watched either of them for many years. Pulling them out right now and will watch them tomorrow. They are incredibly amazing and inspiring, and yes hopeful.
Me too, Lisa. I’m going to make a point of sharing them with others too.
Thank you for this! David Attenborough is one of our favorite nature program hosts. He teaches us so much! Not just about things in the world, but about why we should care and why we should stop destroying our home. That birthday message and video brought tears to our eyes too.
Heartfelt here. Thanks, both of you.
I thought he was good, but didn’t realize how good he really is nor how long he’s been doing that nor how many films and videos he has created. He is excellent!! Thanks for the info. I’ll go watch his other stuff.
I’ve watched most of David’s stuff, but still every time I watch I learn something new. Yes, me too, I need to go back and watch things I’ve already watched.
Wonderful!
Indeed! Thanks Lori.
Indeed, the King of England understands saving the earth, reducing coal production, reducing air pollution, etc. One wonders why the King of the USA doesn’t have a clue and is actually contributing to the damage.
Here’s to David Attenborough and all he has done and will continue to do for this planet, either in his work in the future, or in the showing of his videos.
Delete this if you wish Ann. It just makes me so angry that the USA is so very obviously destroying the earth, the air, and the water.
Ah, Mark, no deleting here. I understand your anger, and feel the same. Every person in the USA who feels the same needs to share their voice with USA Senators and Representatives and the Supreme Court (what’s with them?!).
Love that Lyre bird, and the gorillas. What a fantastic life David Attenborough must have, what incredible memories. Yes, there’s hope, if everyone who can do something then does something to help. Thank you for doing something, for sharing this with us.
Oh, thank you Judy. And yes, everyone who cares really does need to DO something, send money to organizations that support environmental health, get involved locally or nationally, but please do something to help.
Extraordinary human being, and an extraordinarily pertinent and excellent message. Thank you.
You’re welcome, Walt. Thanks for the comment and for being here.
I didn’t know about him. Thank you! I’m now watching them on BBC. They are wonderful!
Oh, cool, someone who didn’t know about David Attenborough! Might sound funny, but that’s cool with me … maybe lots of people who haven’t heard of David’s work. I always like your comments Susan. Thank you.
