Mardon, bird identification!

Remember this bird from a few posts ago? Specifically from the first drive up to the north end of the Potholes Reservoir?

I thought this bird might be a White-throated Swallow, except the coloration wasn’t exactly right. So I asked you readers for help. You helped! ๐Ÿ™‚

Blog reader Jan reports that this gorgeous person is an American Tree Swallow. When I look them up online, that’s exactly what this bird is.

Jan says their habitat is open country near water, marshes, meadows, wooded swamps, especially those with dead trees. And now I remember that this bird kept going in and out of, and flying around, the brown trunk of the decaying tree that the bird was sitting next to in these photos.

Thank you Jan! You obviously have the keen eye of a bird-lover.

Sometimes we know the least amount of stuff about where we were raised! Crazy, huh. ๐Ÿ™‚

I like to think I know birds, but frankly I couldn’t figure out this one. Jan has an Eagle eye! ๐Ÿ™‚

Very good! We have tree swallows that take over our bluebird boxes most summers. They also like to fly over us when we’re mowing the yard, catching the bugs that fly up as the tractor approaches. Makes for fun times!

I don’t know a swallow from a swallow, but it sounds like they know it’s a good thing to interact with humans who are mowing lawns. ๐Ÿ™‚

Jamie, if I remember correctly, you are an IT/computer professional like I was. Jan is detail oriented indeed. ๐Ÿ™‚
