One voice

The USA is experiencing a new level of racial “energy” right now. I use the word “energy” so as not to make anyone here feel the need to take sides. At least I hope that’s the case. My intent is not to start a debate, but to share something with all of you folks that means a great deal to me. And of course, your comments are always welcome.

I want to share a video with you. It’s a music video, nothing inflamatory, nothing that’s been on the news. It’s the music I want to share … and the message.

The name of the song is “One Voice”. There are a number of songs in the world with that title, but this is the one I really like. This version is performed by The Wailin’ Jenny’s, three very talented singers, with two very talented instrumentalists assisting.

The term “one voice” can mean different things. It can mean one person talking or singing alone (as in the first verse of this song). Or the term “one voice” can mean two or three people talking or singing together … or all of us, the whole world, talking and singing and praying and acting with one voice, one wish, one choice, one hope.

Turn your sound on. Turn your heart on.

Coincidentally (?), while I was writing this blog post, I noticed one lone visitor outside my computer room window. He was the only one there, with his one voice.

Just before he left the area, he snuffled down into the shrubbery for one last bite or two and then, with a swish of his tail, off he went.

Peace, and blessings, to all ….

Love the song, love that young buck. We’ve seen the Wailin Jenny’s perform and they are extraordinary. One is from Australia but the family resettled in Canada early in her life. One is from Maine in the USA. And the other is from Winnipeg, Canada. They are extraordinary … oh did I already mention that? 🙂 Thank you Ann.

Thanks for the Wailin’ Jennys background Jim & Janey. Their voices are spectacular. Canada sure has produced its fair share, and then some, of extraordinary musicians.

Good for you Ann. Speaking as a person of color, it means a great deal to me that all people support everyone’s humanity and right to be treated fairly and kept safe from harm. All voices are important and needed.

    • Ann says:

Thanks Kinny. That’s exactly what I got out of that song, and what I’ve believed all my life. I hope everyone who believes the same will use their voice for the good of everyone on the planet.

We are mostly latina, but my life partner is part black. We hear from a very few black people who believe whites should not be speaking in this time of “energy”. But I think those people are few in number, I hope so. We ALL need all voices … whether black, hispanic, LGBT, differently-abled, left-handed, or bald! 🙂 I say that with love and with depth of feeling. Gracias Anna. Oh, and we LOVE the deer.
We just found your blog recently and love it. Hope you get to go camping soon.

De nada, M&M. I too have heard that some black people (and many white people) believe that white people should not be involved with this race stuff. You said it … we ALL need all voices. A good friend of mine emailed me and said he/she was reluctant to comment here because she/he is white. We’ve had quite the long email exchange over the past few days about that. And I’ve found a great number of articles online by black people wondering where the white people are who claim to believe in and support equality, asking why the white folks are so silent. On the other hand, it’s a tough question and there are many sides to the question. Everyone must make their own choices. I could do more than I’m doing, but I thought I could at least bring up the subject in a way that people might be willing to listen to and understand. Music is often a way to have an idea heard with some ease about it. I chuckled at “bald”, thanks. 🙂
And, I may have news about going camping. I will report all about it in my next blog post.

Thank you, Ann. I have found music to be a powerful bridge to crossing so many divides. Wouldn’t the song be so much more beautiful if we were all singing in harmony. Peace and blessings to you and to everyone who reads your blog.
